Frequently Asked Questions
01
What is the best time of year to take this tour?
The best time is during the dry season (from May to October). During these months, there is less rain, the roads are in better condition, and river levels are ideal for navigation. Additionally, you are more likely to spot animals like jaguars or caimans sunbathing on the riverbanks.
02
How physically demanding is the trip?
The difficulty level is moderate. While it doesn't require strenuous high-altitude trekking, you will be walking on jungle trails that can be wet or slippery. The most demanding part is usually the travel time (long stretches in boats and vehicles), so patience and a love for the changing landscape are key.
03
Do I need a Yellow Fever vaccination?
Yes, it is highly recommended (and sometimes mandatory by health authorities) to have a yellow fever vaccination to enter the Amazon rainforest. You should get it at least 10 days before your trip. It is also advisable to consult a doctor regarding malaria prevention.
04
Is there internet access or electricity during the tour?
Internet connection is non-existent or very limited once you enter the park. Regarding electricity, most lodges (such as Casa Machiguenga) use solar panels or generators with limited hours (usually a couple of hours at night). For this reason, it is essential to bring a power bank and extra batteries for your camera.
05
What kind of weather should I expect?
You will experience drastic changes:
-
Starting Point (Cusco/Acjanaco): Cold and possibly windy (3,850 m.a.s.l.).
-
Cloud Forest: Mild, very humid, and misty.
-
Reserved Zone (Lowland Jungle): Hot and humid, with temperatures often exceeding 30°C, and possible sudden rain showers.
